Glossary

The words we use, without the brochure tone.

The words we use on this site, in one column. Not a specification and not a warranty.

How to use it

Plain meanings. The sheet still wins.

If a manufacturer's sheet or a written scope disagrees with a sentence here, the sheet and the scope win.

Roof words and floor words are separate. A urethane roof coating is not urethane cement.

Low-slope roof
A commercial roof with little pitch, drained by internal drains, scuppers, or both.
Ponding
Water that remains on a roof well after rain or melt.
Flashing
The tie from the field of the roof to a wall, curb, pipe, or edge. Most leaks we see start there.
Pitch pocket
A metal box around pipes, filled with sealant that shrinks and cracks.
Drain and scupper
An internal drain takes water through the roof. A scupper takes it through a wall or parapet.
Wet insulation
Insulation that has taken on water and can hold it after the surface looks repaired.
Drone thermal infrared roof scan
A thermal-camera flight over a commercial roof, used when surface temperature can show wet insulation.
Roof Health Report
The written result of an inspection or a spring maintenance visit.
Recover coating
A new coating over a roof that stays in place. Only a candidate when the assembly is dry enough and compatible.
Silicone roof coating
Often compared where water ponds and UV is high.
Acrylic roof coating
A reflective coating that generally wants the roof to drain.
Urethane roof coating
Often chosen where people walk to equipment.
Uniflex Owner's Packet
The written warranty and the packet that set length and upkeep for that Uniflex roof.
Urethane cement
A thick floor with cement and aggregate, for washdown and thermal shock.
Epoxy flooring
A resin floor for many dry industrial rooms. Standard epoxy is a weaker fit under thermal shock.
MMA
Methyl methacrylate flooring, used when a commercial room needs a fast return to service.
Polyaspartic
A fast-cure resin often used as a topcoat. Speed does not make it a thermal-shock floor.
Cove base
A resin turn-up at the wall so wash water stays on the floor.
Thermal shock
A fast temperature change, such as hot wash water on a cold floor.
Shutdown window
The hours production can actually stop. Preparation often uses more of them than the resin.
Free visual assessment
The no-charge look on a commercial roof, used to decide whether maintenance, repair, or restoration is the topic.
Paid thermal scan
The drone infrared scan before maintenance enrollment when RC Coatings did not coat the roof. The cost is credited when you enroll.

Then

Three checks before you quote us.

  1. Find the word

Use the list. Do not invent a synonym.

  2. Match it to the building

Ponding, washdown, and a shutdown are different problems.

  3. Ask if the sheet disagrees

We would rather correct a sentence than argue with a data sheet.

Warranty

One sentence worth memorizing.

RC Coatings roof coating systems are Uniflex. Uniflex offers 10, 15, and 20-year labor and materials warranties, subject to the written warranty terms.

The written Uniflex warranty file for that roof, including the maintenance the warranty expects.
